Boston Marathon Highlight: Amelia Camilleri
Cambridge Resident Runs Boston Marathon for Youth Mentoring Programs
Amelia Camilleri To Hit the Pavement for Big Brothers Big Sisters
Amelia Camilleri will run the Boston Marathon in support of Big Brothers Big Sisters, raising awareness and funds to expand access to one-to-one youth mentoring relationships across the region.
Although not a Big herself, Amelia’s commitment to the mission is deeply personal. As a first-generation college student from an immigrant family, she understands the value of guidance and opportunity.
“Empowering young girls through mentorship is a cause that’s especially close to my heart,” she shares.
Amelia first learned about the Boston Marathon opportunity through a lecture by former Big Sister Association CEO, Annissa Essaibi George, during her time with Harvard Undergraduate Women in Business. Inspired, she applied on the spot and began her marathon journey.
This will be Amelia’s first-ever marathon, and she’s taking on the challenge with dedication. With a training plan from her high school coach, she’s logging over 50 miles a week. To support her fundraising efforts, she’s launching a silent auction in early April featuring donations from local bakeries, fitness programs, and more, totaling over $10,000 in value.
Amelia is one of seven Boston Marathon runners fundraising for Big Brothers Big Sisters this year. Her goal is to raise $10,000 to support youth mentorship across the community.
