New York Resident Runs Boston Marathon for Youth Mentoring Programs
Gabriella Tardera To Hit the Pavement for Big Brothers Big Sisters

On April 21, Gabriella Tardera, a 28-year-old special education preschool teacher from New York, will run the Boston Marathon to support youth mentoring programs. She is running on behalf of Big Brothers Big Sisters, raising funds and awareness for the organization’s mission to provide life-changing one-to-one mentorship for children.

Gabriella’s connection to mentorship runs deep. Inspired by her fifth-grade teacher, who first believed in her potential, and her mother, who raised five daughters on her own after the loss of their father, Gabriella knows the power of strong role models.

“Having consistent positive influences in life, especially as a child, can make a huge difference,” she shares.
While she’s not yet a Big, Gabriella has long admired Big Brothers Big Sisters. When she saw the organization was a Boston Marathon charity partner, she knew it was the perfect way to get involved.

This will be Gabriella’s first Boston Marathon and her fifth marathon overall. She is currently pursuing her PhD in special education while teaching full-time in Harlem. Her career and research reinforce what she already believes: mentorship matters.

“As a teacher and a researcher, I’ve seen how one-on-one support changes lives. That’s what makes this run so meaningful to me.”
Gabriella is one of seven runners supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters in this year’s marathon. Her goal is to raise $10,000 to support youth across the region.
