Boston Marathon Highlight: Greg Frattaroli
East Boston Resident Runs Boston Marathon for Youth Mentoring Programs
Greg Frattaroli To Hit the Pavement for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts
Each April, runners from around the world gather in Boston to take on the historic Boston Marathon. Among them this year is Greg Frattaroli, who’s not just running for the thrill of the race, he’s running with purpose.
Greg will be hitting the pavement to raise awareness and funds for Big Brothers Big Sisters, one of the leading one-to-one youth mentoring organizations. With a personal goal of raising $10,000, Greg joins six other passionate runners supporting the cause in this year’s marathon.
For Greg, this mission is deeply personal.
“Growing up in Newtown, CT, I have witnessed firsthand the devastating consequences of isolation and anger in young people who feel lost and unheard,” he shares. “Since 2012, I have searched for meaningful ways to address this challenge. The only solution I’ve seen truly make a difference is connecting these kids with caring mentors who help guide them toward a positive path into a supportive community.”
Greg’s journey with Big Brothers Big Sisters began when he became a Big. He was paired with a Little who shared his love for humor, a connection that sparked a two-year match filled with jokes and laughter. “We instantly bonded over humor, and our favorite thing was to share jokes,” Greg recalls.
Today, Greg continues to support the organization by serving on its Board of Advisors, where he contributes to the finance & audit and program innovation committees. His commitment to youth mentorship has only grown stronger over time.
Now, as he takes on the Boston Marathon, Greg is driven by the impact mentoring can have on a young person’s life. He describes the organization’s work as one that “offers encouragement, stability, and hope when it’s needed most”, something he believes every child deserves.
Earlier this year, Big Brothers Big Sisters merged with the Big Sister Association of Greater Boston to further expand access to mentorship programs and resources for hundreds of children, families, and volunteer mentors.
