We are incredibly grateful for the amazing generosity of our supporters that made the sold out 10th Anniversary BIG 3 Fishing Tournament another record-setting one! We are thrilled to announce that the Big 3 raised more than $675,000, our most successful yet, that will keep our programs thriving across Cape Cod & the Islands.

This would not be possible without the tireless dedication and commitment from the Big 3 tournament leadership committee: Tri-Chairs, Shawn DeLude, Jeff Leerink and John Our, and committee members, Jonas Baker, Courtney Bridge, Ben Crago, Chris Cooney, Chris Lynch, Kyle Prussing, Kendall Sullivan, and Alex Theoharidis. Thank you!

We recognize the tremendous generosity from all our donors, sponsors, in-kind friends, and volunteers, whose support we celebrate and are most thankful for. You have helped us build a strong foundation as we embark on Commitment 1,000 – to serve 1,000 kids with a Big mentor by 2028. We are indebted to all of you for your contributions that make a direct impact on the kids and families we serve on Cape Cod and the Islands, and for years to come.

This year’s tournament was sold out for months, capping attendance for Friday’s tournament reception at 240 guests, with 40 boats registered to fish. Derek Lambiase, a recent graduate, and Cadet Big Brother at Mass Maritime Academy, was the evening’s mission speaker, sharing testimony about his four-year match with his Little Brother Camden of Bourne.

The biggest fish weighed in was a 12.8 lb. striped bass from Team Alicat and an 11.2 lb. bluefish from Team Kingsbury. Points were awarded for each bluefin tuna caught and released, and Team Scup Slayer took home the win in this category. New this year: the overall youth angler award went to Stella Rose who reeled in 68 fish (!!!); and overall female angler went to Anne Bucs.

Since inception, the Big 3 Fishing Tournament has raised more than $3.825 million, creating more than 1,345 new mentoring friendships for under-resourced youth on the Cape and the Islands.

If you have time to give, please consider becoming a Big. Something as simple as fishing, shooting hoops, grabbing pizza, or playing a board game, is all it takes to be a Big and make a world of difference.

On behalf of the children and families we serve, thank you for believing and investing in the power of mentoring. #biggertogether

In 1974 an informal group of volunteers began serving as mentors to six disadvantaged youth on Cape Cod. Soon after, the group was formally organized as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands. The program was founded due to the large population of at-risk children- particularly those living in single-parent homes on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard.

In 2006, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands merged with Boston-based Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts (formally of Massachusetts Bay) to improve organizational sustainability and increase capacity to serve children. Based in Hyannis, MA we are currently the only one-to-one youth mentoring agency on Cape Cod.
