Blooming Bids for Kids was held at the Field Gallery June 16th
We are incredibly grateful for the amazing generosity of our supporters that made the sold out 11th Annual Blooming Bids for Kids another record-setting one! We are thrilled to announce that the Blooming Bids for Kids fundraiser raised more than $108,000, our most successful yet, that will keep our programs thriving across Island.
This would not be possible without the tireless dedication and commitment from the Blooming Bids for Kids leadership committee: Co-Chairs, Stanley Startzell and Marcia Smith and committee members, Connie Alexander, Rebekah El Deiry, Patti Leighton, and Peggy Schweir, thank you!
We recognize the tremendous generosity from all our donors, sponsors, in-kind friends, and volunteers, whose support we celebrate and are most thankful for. You have helped us build a strong foundation as we embark on Commitment 1,000 – to serve 1,000 kids with a Big mentor by 2028. We are indebted to all of you for your contributions that make a direct impact on the kids and families we serve on Cape Cod and the Islands, and for years to come.
This year’s event was sold out in the weeks leading up, capping attendance at 230 guests. Kristen Gosselin was the evening’s mission speaker. She was awarded as “Big Sister of Year,” and shared testimony about her nine-year match with her Sister Elaina.
If you have time to give, please consider becoming a Big. Something as simple as fishing, shooting hoops, grabbing pizza, or playing a board game, is all it takes to be a Big and make a world of difference.
On behalf of the children and families we serve, thank you for believing and investing in the power of mentoring. #biggertogether

Blooming Bids for Kids has been an instrumental resource in growing the Big Brothers Big Sisters program on-island.
In the last five years, the success of Blooming Bids for Kids has allowed BBBSCCI to:
- Make 45 NEW Big and Little friendships (and counting!) – that’s 45 Bigs, 45 Littles, and 45+ guardians. The impact really is BIG!
- Serve over 75 children on-island in a high quality mentoring friendship with a caring adult volunteer
- Raise over $150,000 allowing for the creation of a full-time Martha’s Vineyard Program Coordinator in 2018
- Become one of the leading regions in the U.S. with an average match length of 4 years!
