Waiting Little of the Month: Meet Michael!
Why I Want A Big: “I want a Big Brother to help me explore new places on the island and eat pizza with!”
About Michael: Michael is an easy going 9 year old boy who lives in Vineyard Haven with his mom and sisters. He has been waiting for a Big Brother almost a year.
Interests: Michael is a very active kid who is interested in a wide range of activities including soccer, board games and ice skating. Prior to the pandemic, Michael had started playing baseball and was trying to get involved with CrossFit. Michael’s mom says he’s “up for anything” and that she hopes his Big Brother could help boost his confidence, in addition to finding an activity that becomes “his thing”. A Big Brother who likes a wide range of activities, both indoors and outdoors, would be a great mentor for Michael.
Things You Can Do Together:
- Play soccer or anything active
- Play a board game
- Make a list of places and explore them
- Go to the Flying Horses (when they reopen)
- Grab some pizza
Why He Needs a Big: Michael lives with his mom and sisters. His mom would like him to have an additional positive adult in his life to explore his interests, beyond what she is able to do with him. Michael’s mom would really like a Big Brother who could be an additional consistent, stable, positive male role model in his life.
BBBS is currently monitoring COVID-19 guidelines in the region and works with each match to ensure comfort levels in deciding on virtual or in person outings. Our agency is committed to ensuring youth remain safely connected to caring adult mentors, especially during this period of social isolation.
Our waitlist for youth seeking Bigs is at the lowest in history on Martha’s Vineyard. With 5 boys remaining to be matched, including Michael, we could realistically clear the waitlist for boys in the coming weeks. If you are interested in learning more about how to become a mentor for Michael, or another waiting Little, visit our website: capebigs.org. We hope you’ll also consider sharing Michael’s story to help him, and other kids like him to find their Big!
Children s safety is our number one priority; throughout the duration of the match, not just the beginning!
