A group of community leaders met at the Boston City Club to discuss their concern for fatherless boys in Boston
From that meeting, Big Brothers Association of Boston was formed. Created as a non-sectarian, interracial, interfaith service, in its first year 10 Big Brothers were matched with Little Brothers.
For several decades the agency grew and changed. In the late 1990s, we began matching girls and women in response to a request from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America to serve the Cape Ann area.
We merged with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands, and acquired Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Attleboro — two agencies serving both boys and girls. At this time, to better reflect the regions and children we serve, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America granted our name change to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay.
We will serve 2,400 boys and girls in long-term, one-to-one mentoring friendships. We have supported over 17,000 matches since our inception.
