Ambassador of Mentoring
Location: Boston (with virtual options during the pandemic)

Role Summary
BBBSEM’s Mentor 2.0 Mentoring Ambassador is a one year of service position, beginning in August 2021 through June 2022. The Ambassador will be a key player in the success of our Mentor 2.0 Mentoring Program working side-by-side with BBBSEM’s staff already at our partner high schools to improve the high school graduation and college success of teens in a Boston High School.
The Ambassador will:
- Own the registration and sign-up process of new students into our Mentor 2.0 mentoring program
- Partner with our Community Engagement Team to recruit and enroll volunteers into the program, as well as provide ongoing support and training to the match parties
- Work with program coordinators to roll out the curriculum through weekly classes and monthly events
- Aid in carrying out events where mentors and mentees can come together
- Be a key contributor in the documentation of program best practices
Basic Qualifications
- Experience with and/or commitment to youth development
- Interest in nonprofit organizations and their development
- Prior exposure or experience to tutoring or mentoring, whether formal or informal
- Friendly, coalition-builder with a customer focus
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- Proven leadership and project management abilities
- A passion for national and community service
- The desire to work with diverse people, organizations and communities
- Flexibility and a good sense of humor
- Comfortable with limited amount of project ambiguity
AmeriCorps Service Requirements
- Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S. to be an AmeriCorps member.
- Complete a minimum of 850 hours (~26hrs/week) of documented service to complete host site project
- Complete all required AmeriCorps documentation and monthly reporting
- Complete at least 1 collaborative community service projects to benefit the field of mentoring
- Maintain a service portfolio and blog posts
- Commute to all corps-wide trainings and events to cultivate future non-profit leaders. (Reimbursements available for qualifying members)Responsibilities include attending pre-orientation session, orientation, monthly corps meetings, a mid-year retreat and two week-long community service planning sessions –
- Meetings located in Greater Boston
- Effectively manage time, projects, and meet competing demands
- Complete all professional development requirements as part of member contract
- Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the
- National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry and a fingerprint based FBI check. *Eligibility to participate in the AAoM program is contingent on the results of this screening
- A passion for volunteerism and community service
