In-Person Meeting Updates for Matches

Our email last included our new Safety Guidelines for in-person meetings! Hopefully, you’ve had a chance to review the updated guidelines. Matches can begin outings again on July 1, as long as these safety measures are followed. Make sure to talk to your Match Advocate, via text, email, or phone, prior to your outing to let them know your plans!

20 Minute Mentoring Activity! 

About My Community

This week’s virtual mentoring activity is all about sparking curiosity for one’s community and finding ways to help others and express caring! As the country slowly begins to reopen, Bigs and Littles can start making plans for in-person meetings. This activity provides an opportunity for Bigs and Littles to learn about each other’s communities and can give them some ideas for things to do post-quarantine. Both parties will need a piece of paper and something to write with.

Directions: On a piece of paper create a map of your community. Include the parks, stores, train stations, anything you can remember in your community. Share about what is similar/different from each other’s communities.

Both parties can then answer the following reflection questions:

1. What is one place you would want to visit in your Big/Little’s community?
2. What is your favorite part/least favorite part of your community?
3. What would you add or take away from your community to make it better?
4. What are the ways that you can get involved in your community?
5. Can you think of other communities that you are involved with? Are there any communities you would like to be a part of?

Call For Submissions: Show & Tell! 

There is a whole lot going on in the world over the last few months, so we want to make sure we are seeing and hearing what our Littles have been working on and thinking about. With that in mind, we will be creating a space on our website to showcase and amplify their voices and accomplishments! If your child or Little has something they would like to share with the broader BBBS community, we would love for you to send us their art, poetry, school success stories, video game high scores, opinions on current events, or anything else they would like to express.

If you have something you would like to submit, please send it to sphillips@emassbigs.org by July 15, along with a note letting us know that both the Guardian and Little have approved their submission being shared on our site. Please keep in mind that submissions must be G-Rated.

Match Highlight: One of our Littles, Jalil Rogers was recently selected as a 2020 Red Sox Foundation Scholar! Jalil worked very hard to make it to the final stage of this process, with the support and admiration of his Big Brother Eric. Red Sox Foundation staff surprised Jalil and his family in person with signs and the announcement. We are proud and excited to share this bright, well-earned achievement in a time of fighting for justice and opportunity for all youth. Congratulations Jalil! From all of us at BBBSEM we’re so happy and proud of you!

¡La actividad de tutoría virtual de esta semana se trata de despertar la curiosidad por la comunidad y encontrar formas de ayudar a otros y expresar interés! A medida que el país comienza a abrir lentamente, Bigs y Littles pueden comenzar a hacer planes para reuniones en persona. Esta actividad brinda una oportunidad para que Bigs y Littles aprendan sobre las comunidades de los demás, y les puede dar algunas ideas sobre cosas que hacer después de la cuarentena. Necesitarán un pedazo de papel y algo con lo que escribir.
