    Department Description

    The Community Engagement Team is the leader in our external interactions with community organizations, corporations, and individuals. Our team establishes a relationship with invested social impact partners/individuals and spreads Big Brothers Big Sister’s mission and vision to diverse groups.  Our purpose as a team is to engage, cultivate and inspire current and prospective partners for future mentors and other collaborations that ensure the young leaders in our community realize their fullest potential.

    Role Summary

    As a member of the Community Engagement Team, an Engagement Coordinator plays a central role in driving relationships and increasing our ability to serve more youth.  As part of a dynamic team, this position is responsible for filling the pipeline of volunteers and mentees. We achieve this by cultivating and creating unique engagement opportunities, including formal presentations, events, and leveraging the BBBSEM network to speak on our behalf and share our message as broadly as possible.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Identify, pursue and cultivate community, corporate and educational partners that can or do align with BBBSEM’s Vision and Mission
    • Initiate and maintain relationships with individuals and partner organizations through different engagement tools.
    • Consistently fuel a pipeline of vital partnerships that provide pipelines for constituents to become Mentors and Mentees.
    • Conduct outreach and recruitment activities as needed.
    • Work in collaboration and in conjunction across departments to develop responsive, innovative and sustainable partnerships including events and targeted campaigns.
    • Regularly acquire feedback and input from internal and external stakeholders. Analyze market data and research to understand and identify trends, challenges, opportunities to ensure recruitment and engagement goals are met.

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree with 3 or more years of work experience, preferably in marketing, sales, recruiting, and/or development
    • Ability to learn and speak to BBBSEM’s purpose and  Eastern Massachusetts landscape, communities and cultures.  Existing network to leverage in this position a plus.
    • Able to create competitive and innovative recruitment and referral materials to build direct engagement of current volunteers and generate referrals
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (excel, powerpoint, etc.) and the Salesforce CRM system.
    • Ability to communicate with professionalism, enthusiasm, and empathy to large groups and individuals verbally and in writing
    • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the region when necessary.  Must be available to attend events in the early morning, evening and weekends.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Effective and confident public speaker; proven ability to develop strong working relationships.  Excellent communication skills, written and verbal.
    • Exceptional relationship management skills; ability to network and gain access to decision-makers; genuine listener; comfortable making cold calls and setting up appointments; consultative sales approach.
    • Experience successfully working with and recruiting with keen understanding of volunteer motivations, needs and expectations.
    • Volunteer management, customer service, community organizing, collegiate campaign experience a plus.
    • Demonstrated comfort and ability to work with and motivate a wide variety of people, including youth and adults, with a preference for candidates with experience in racially, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse urban and/or recent immigrant communities. Language capacity is a plus.
    • Passion for working in the community: forming, maintaining and strengthening relationships

  • Match Support Coordinator
    Match Support Coordinator

    Match Support Coordinator

    As a Program Services Coordinator – Match Support, you will play a truly unique role in the healthy development of the Big and Little match relationship. You will be the first person in the agency to see the impact of our programs. Through phone calls, emails, and other events you will provide on-going match support to increase the quality and duration of the match relationship and identify any child safety issues for volunteers, children and their families.

    This position in particular will focus on supporting a number of Spanish-speaking matches. This will include both written and spoken communication.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Frequently contact volunteers, parents, and youth according to agency standards via phone, email, in-person visits, and/or match events to increase the quality and duration of the match relationship and identify any child safety issues for volunteers, children and their families.
    • In each match contact, gather the appropriate information to make an assessment of the current state of the match and its needs. Recommend an action plan to ensure that the match moves forward appropriately and all parties have a positive experience
    • Document all match contacts in a timely and accurate manner and according to BBBS of America and agency standards
    • Actively encourage empathy, communication, and collaboration across match parties of different backgrounds
    • Collaborate closely with other staff – in program services and other departments – and to enable the most volunteers and children to be successfully matched
    • Share information with matches about activities, events and opportunities available through the agency
    • Refer volunteers, youth and parents to other services as needed.
    • Help plan, organize and attend agency-sponsored match activities for Bigs and Littles
    • When a match requires closing, conduct thorough discussions with volunteer, youth and guardian and perform accurate and timely write-up of match closure forms
    • Coordinate or lead special projects as assigned

    Basic Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree with one or more years of work experience, preferably in youth development, volunteer or program management, and/or education
    • Availability to work full-time. Hours may include evenings and weekends
    • Access to reliable internet and phone connections to perform work remotely during the COVID-19 pandemic
    • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs (excel, word, powerpoint, etc.)
    • Ability to communicate with professionalism, assertiveness, and empathy to large groups and individuals verbally and in writing
    • Willingness to commit to a minimum of 2-3 years in the role

    • Ability to fluently speak Spanish

    Ambassador of Mentoring

    Ambassador of Mentoring

    Location: Boston (with virtual options during the pandemic)
    Openings: 2
    Hours per week: Part-Time (~26 hours/week)

    Role Summary
    BBBSEM’s Mentor 2.0 Mentoring Ambassador is a one year of service position, beginning in August 2021 through June 2022. The Ambassador will be a key player in the success of our Mentor 2.0 Mentoring Program working side-by-side with BBBSEM’s staff already at our partner high schools to improve the high school graduation and college success of teens in a Boston High School.

    The Ambassador will:

    • Own the registration and sign-up process of new students into our Mentor 2.0 mentoring program
    • Partner with our Community Engagement Team to recruit and enroll volunteers into the program, as well as provide ongoing support and training to the match parties
    • Work with program coordinators to roll out the curriculum through weekly classes and monthly events
    • Aid in carrying out events where mentors and mentees can come together
    • Be a key contributor in the documentation of program best practices

    Basic Qualifications

    • Experience with and/or commitment to youth development
    • Interest in nonprofit organizations and their development
    • Prior exposure or experience to tutoring or mentoring, whether formal or informal
    • Friendly, coalition-builder with a customer focus
    • Excellent organization and communication skills
    • Proven leadership and project management abilities
    • A passion for national and community service
    • The desire to work with diverse people, organizations and communities

    AmeriCorps Service Requirements

    • Must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U.S. to be an AmeriCorps member.
    • Complete a minimum of 850 hours (~26hrs/week) of documented service to complete host site project
    • Complete all required AmeriCorps documentation and monthly reporting
    • Complete at least 1 collaborative community service projects to benefit the field of mentoring
    • Maintain a service portfolio and blog posts
    • Commute to all corps-wide trainings and events to cultivate future non-profit leaders. (Reimbursements available for qualifying members)Responsibilities include attending pre-orientation session, orientation, monthly corps meetings, a mid-year retreat and two week-long community service planning sessions –
    • Meetings located in Greater Boston
    • Effectively manage time, projects, and meet competing demands
    • Complete all professional development requirements as part of member contract
    • Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the
    • National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry and a fingerprint based FBI check. *Eligibility to participate in the AAoM program is contingent on the results of this screening

    Program Services Internship (Boston and Cape Cod Offices)

    The Program Services Intern will work alongside Enrollment and Match Support Coordinators to assist in the enrollment of volunteers and youth as well as match support of over 1,500 “Big/Little” relationships. This is an excellent opportunity to learn about the not for profit sector and gain exposure to youth mentoring programs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Actively participate as a member of Program Services and the BBBSMB team
    • Utilize critical thinking and interview techniques for conducting behavioral assessments
    • Create thoughtful, organized, and official written documentation of “Bigs” and “Littles”
    • Reference leading mentoring research and best practices to help create, support, and facilitate mentor relationships between “Bigs” and Littles”
    • Assist the Program Team in the organization of special events and programming (School-Based, Campus-Based, etc)
    • Display professionalism and the ability to work in a goal-driven work setting by hitting specific work completion targets
    • Participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and agency wide learning initiatives
    • Provide other administrative support as needed

    Basic Qualifications

    • Must be a current college student and enrolled in a partner University – Internships are only available for class-credit
    • Minimum GPA of 2.75
    • Availability to work at 12-15 flexible hours per week for the duration of the school semester.

    Marketing & Recruitment Internship

    The Marketing and Recruitment Intern will work alongside the Community Engagement (CE) Team and be responsible for a variety of tasks focused on corporate and community recruitment of adult volunteers and youth, alongside a variety of marketing tactics. At the end of the internship, the Marketing and Recruitment Intern will have gained experience in areas such as public speaking, corporate networking, community engagement, background research, database management, content development (social media, blog, PR), media pitching, and content calendar management.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Help CE team with in-depth research of top corporate and community targets
    • Initiate outreach including, but not limited to, colds call, emails, LinkedIn messaging
    • Support with back-end data entry within Salesforce
    • Develop content related to upcoming recruitment events including, but not limited to, promotional flyers, presentations, and follow-up communications
    • Attend and participate in recruitment events as necessary
    • Generate blog posts for our BLOG and other content and creative as needed
    • Interview local Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and family members in the program for potential stories
    • Assist in managing and maintaining blog and social media content calendars
    • Local media pitching
    • Participate in discussions around marketing communications and strategies

    Development Intern

    Development Intern

    The Development Intern will work alongside the Special Events and Development teams and be responsible for assisting with activities that help to raise funds through stewardship, planning, supporting, and implementing of events and development strategies to meet the agency revenue goals. At the end of the internship, the Development Intern will have gained experience in areas such as fundraising, event and project management, communication and research, database management, and donor engagement and stewardship.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Work with volunteer committees and boards
    • Engages in online prospect research
    • Assist with donor stewardship activities such as email blasts in MailChimp
    • Engage & assist with donor giving strategies
    • Assist in the preparation and prompt distribution of donor and attendee acknowledgements and invoices
    • Help team ensure accurate data entry and reporting in Salesforce, Excel, and other various programs
    • Work with team on the execution of any event stewardship
    • Special Events research including auctions, venues and vendors
    • Provide any additional administrative support to the team

    Basic Qualifications

    • Must be a current college student and enrolled in a partner University – Internships are only available for class-credit
    • Minimum GPA of 2.75
    • Availability to work at 12-15 flexible hours per week for the duration of the school semester.
    • Hours may sometimes include evenings and weekends
    • May be done remotely with the option of in person on some occasions dependent on comfort levels, school and BBBSEM rules
