Little Sister Lailah and Big Sister Carla were matched in virtually April, and have had fun getting to know each other over the past five months. They are both very enthusiastic and have a lot of fun together whether it is on video chat or in person.

Lailah enjoys talking to Carla and likes that she has a Big Sister to do fun things with. At the beginning of the match she liked to hear about Carla’s job as a scientist, and her growing up in Texas and Ecuador. Lailah is also a fan of rainbows, mermaids, and making slime; these are things she likes to share with Carla.

Carla integrated her interest in science with Lailah right away. The two began doing science experiments together over video chat in their early outings. More recently Carla has been teaching Lailah about strategy and decision making by playing games together and talking about planning their moves out loud. Lailah has asked to learn chess and Carla thinks this is a great goal for them to work on.

Lailah loves feeling like she has a real sister. By talking and watching short videos about expressing emotion together, Lailah has become more comfortable sharing her opinions and feelings with Carla.

Lailah recently noticed Carla speaking Spanish with her husband and asked about it. Carla explained that they were Hispanic and it is part of their heritage so they use Spanish when speaking to each other. Lailah, who is also Hispanic but at the beginning of the match would say she does not know Spanish, will now say she is learning. Carla was excited about exploring Lailah’s interest in learning more about her family’s heritage and language in their match.
