HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH: Meet Our Spanish Speaking Team!

The Spanish Speaking team at Big Brothers Big Sisters is a cross departmental team that works to ensure equitable access for Spanish speaking families to our program and all the resources we provide. We work to promote the recruitment of Spanish speaking volunteers and families and ensure that once in our program they receive quality support.

All youth in our program deserve high quality support and resources regardless of their familial context. Our team works to ensure that the families in our program who are Spanish speaking receive equitable and culturally competent support and resources. We make sure that families who speak Spanish are able to participate fully in the whole process of having a Big and being a part of our program. We work to ensure that we defend the potential of all of the youth we serve.

Hispanic Heritage Month is the period from September 15th to October 15th in the United States, when people recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the group’s heritage and culture. It celebrates generations of Hispanic Americans who have positively influenced and enriched our nation and society.

Our agency celebrates this wonderful tribute in a variety of ways. We hold a space to have our employees learn more about the culture and share their own experiences. We celebrate together by highlighting the incredible depth and beauty of hispanic culture. We are sharing these stories through social media and other means to make sure that the Big Brothers Big Sisters Community at large is able to celebrate with us!

Hispanic Heritage Month is an important time for us to celebrate but our team works year-round to achieve our goals. A continued project for us is ensuring that all new communications and resources are accurately translated into Spanish to ensure that everyone we serve is able to stay involved and take advantage of all programming and resources. We hope to continue to recruit Spanish speaking volunteers to continue to better serve our youth and families. We are also working towards partnering with other organizations that serve the hispanic community.
