Celebrating LGBTQ+ Pride with BBBSEM

Happy LGBTQ+ Pride Month! While the Pride Parades around the country have been postponed until 2021, here are Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts we are celebrating virtually throughout the month of June! Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) are CORE VALUES and we believe that we maximize our impact and truly thrive as an organization when perspectives are diverse, our culture is inclusive, and our practices model the equity we want to see in the world. 20 Minute Mentoring Activity! 

What Makes Me Proud!!!

This week’s 20-minute mentoring activity is about promoting confidence by exploring what makes us proud! In preparation for this virtual outing, you will each need a piece of paper and something colorful to write with (crayons, markers, colored pencils etc). Take turns answering the following questions. Both Big and Little should write down the answers using the colors of the rainbow on your pieces of paper. At the end, you will each have a rainbow of PRIDE!

1. Big: What is one thing that makes you proud of yourself?

• Big & Little should each write the answer down in RED

2. Little: What is one thing that makes you proud of yourself?

• Big & Little should each write the answer down in ORANGE

3. Big: What is one thing that makes you proud of your Little?

• Big & Little should each write the answer down in YELLOW

4. Little: What is one thing that makes you proud of your Big?

• Big & Little should each write the answer down in GREEN

5. Big: What is one thing that makes you proud of your identity? For example, the languages you speak, the color of your skin, the person or people you love, the traditions/holidays you celebrate, or the food your family makes.

• Big & Little should each write the answer down in BLUE

6. Little: What is one thing that makes you proud of your identity? For example the languages you speak, the color of your skin, the person or people you love, the traditions/holidays you celebrate, or the food your family makes.

• Big & Little should each write the answer down in INDIGO

7. Big & Little Together: What is one thing that makes you proud of your friendship together?

• Big & Little should each write the answer down in VIOLET

Reflection Questions:

• What did you learn about each other through what you shared?
• What surprised you about what you learned?
• What were the similarities and differences between what makes you proud?

  The Human Rights Campaign (HRC)’s #PrideInside events and activities and list of books and activities focused on being an ally and respecting differences inclusive of LGBTQ identities. Don’t have the book? Don’t worry! The HRC will provide a link to online readings to each book.

Actividad de mentoría de 20 minutos!

¡Qué me enorgullece!!!

¡La actividad de tutoría de 20 minutos de esta semana se trata de promover la confianza al explorar lo que nos enorgullece! En preparación para esta excursión virtual, cada uno necesitará un trozo de papel y algo colorido para escribir (lápices de colores, marcadores, lápices de colores, etc.). Turnense para responder las siguientes preguntas. Tanto Big como Little deben escribir las respuestas usando los colores del arco iris en sus hojas de papel. ¡Al final, cada uno tendrá un arcoíris de ORGULLO!

1. Big: ¿Qué es lo que te hace sentir orgulloso de ti mismo?

• Big & Little deberían escribir la respuesta en ROJO

2. Little: ¿Qué es una cosa que te enorgullece de ti mismo?

• Big & Little debe escribir la respuesta en NARANJA

3. Big: ¿Qué es lo que te enorgullece de tu Little?

• Big & Little debe escribir la respuesta en AMARILLO

4. Little: ¿Qué es lo que te hace sentir orgulloso de tu Big?

• Big & Little debe escribir la respuesta en VERDE

5. Big: ¿Qué es lo que te hace sentir orgulloso de tu identidad? Por ejemplo: los  idiomas que habla, el color de su piel, la persona o personas que ama, las tradiciones / fiestas que celebra o la comida que prepara su familia.
