Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts! We hope that you can continue to find reasons to be grateful despite the challenges this year has brought. BBBSEM Guidelines on Social Distancing

We want to continue to share our appreciation for your commitment and understanding as we respond to the evolving COVID-19 virus and restrictions that come with ensuring we stay safe and healthy.

The leadership team at Big Brothers Big Sisters is listening closely to local and state experts, reviewing local guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19, and we find ourselves making the challenging decision to maintain our current safety guidelines of restricting Big and Little outings to outdoors only, in spaces that can allow a minimum of 6 feet distance and wearing a mask at all times. As we look ahead to colder months and unpredictable weather, there will be times that spending time outdoors is not possible. Our goal is to work together with you to provide structure and support to continue to engage in meaningful mentoring activities and stay connected virtually. We truly believe in the power of connection, whether that is on a socially distanced walk or over a FaceTime call and thank each of you for making the commitment to stay engaged, connected and safe in the challenging months ahead of us.

In addition to the guidelines set forth by Big Brothers Big Sisters of Eastern Massachusetts – we expect that our matches also adhere to the state and federal mandated guidelines. If your match is not ready or is unable to accommodate our safety guidelines and measures, we thank you for continuing to meet virtually and for staying connected during this difficult time. From all of us here at BBBSEM, we are inspired and appreciative of all of our matches!

20 Minute Mentoring Activity  

Thank You Cards

Last week’s activity focused on the importance of understanding gratitude and expressing appreciation which builds Character. This week, we are putting that into action by writing thank you cards! Writing thank you cards helps us show Caring for others and also provides a way to maintain or increase our Connection with others

Materials: You can use any materials you have at home to make a handmade card or try using a free online website like Greeting Island if you’d like to send the cards via email.

Directions:

1. Talk to your Little about Caring and ways to show Caring towards others.
2. Decide on who you would like to send a Thank You card to (family members, essential workers, teachers, each other, etc.).
3. Enjoy making and decorating the cards and help each other with ideas for cards.

*Feel free to make adaptations to accommodate your little’s age and abilities.

Register Now for the Virtual Holiday Party! 

We are so excited to be celebrating the Holiday Season with you!  While we wish we could be together in person for our usual festivities, we hope that this virtual Holiday Party will still be a special way for you, Big Brothers Big Sisters staff and other matches to have some fun together in a safe way.

BBBSEM Civic Engagement Challenge:

Your voice matters! Are you CIVICALLY ENGAGED? Election Day is here and we want to hear from our matches: Why do you think it’s important to be civically engaged? This challenge isn’t just for our Littles, we also want our Bigs to get involved and share why being civically engaged is important. With permission from everyone involved — matches that participate may be highlighted on our social media channels for match shout outs! Every match that participates and submits for this challenge will be entered into a raffle at the end of the month for a chance to win prizes and gift cards!!! Winning matches will be announced the first week of December and prizes will be sent to the Little’s home! See below for the guidelines and instructions on how to participate! If you have questions about how to explore conversations about civic engagement in your match, please reach out to your match advocate!

BBBSEM Super Connected Challenge!

Has your match been meeting 2+ times a month? Over the past few months we’ve had to get creative with different ways to stay connected with friends, family, and with each other. During COVID-19, we have been SO impressed by our matches and your ability to navigate challenges and barriers as you continue to remain connected during this challenging time! Whether you’re connecting virtually or in-person for socially distanced outings — YOU’RE ALL SUPERHEROES! We want to hear from YOU and celebrate you in your successes with staying SUPER CONNECTED! Every match that participates will be entered into a raffle at the end of the month for a chance to win prizes and gift cards!!! Winning matches will be announced the first week of December and prizes will be sent to the little’s home! See below for the guidelines and instructions on how to participate!

Actividad de Mentoría de 20 minutos! 

Título: Tarjetas de Agradecimiento

La actividad de la semana pasada se centró en la importancia de entender la gratitud y mostrar agradecimiento, lo cual nos ayuda a construir Carácter. Esta semana, lo estamos poniendo en práctica escribiendo tarjetas de agradecimiento. Escribir tarjetas de agradecimiento nos ayuda a demostrar Cariño por los demás y también es una forma de mantener o aumentar nuestra Conexión con otros.

Materiales: Pueden utilizar cualquier material que tengan en casa para hacer una tarjeta hecha a mano o usar un sitio web gratuito como Greeting Island si desea enviar las tarjetas por correo electrónico.

Direcciones:

1. Habla con tu Little sobre el Cariño y las formas de mostrar Cariño hacia los demás.
2. Decidan a quién les gustaría enviar una tarjeta de agradecimiento (miembros de la familia, trabajadores esenciales, maestras, entre sí, etc.).
3. Disfruten creando y decorando las tarjetas y ayúdense mutuamente con ideas para las tarjetas.
