Virtual Activity

20 Minute Mentoring Activity: Caring

  • As we enter the holiday season, it is the perfect time to connect with your Little about Caring! Role model Caring for them by being an active listener, incorporating their thoughts and feelings into the friendship, and creating opportunities for them to practice Caring by doing random acts of kindness together.
  • Try this Caring Show & Tell activity together.
  • Practice Caring and kindness by making someone smile! Here is one activity that you can try.

2. Many of the in-person, long-term project ideas above could work virtually as well!

3. Listen to an episode of the Wow in the World podcast that your Little is interested in, and then discuss your wow-worthy discoveries! If your Little is new to listening podcasts, they might find it helpful to doodle or color while they listen.

4. Feeling crafty as we approach Thanksgiving? Try following along with one of these Art for Kids Hub tutorials!

5. Matches with Littles ages 13+ are invited to join virtual cooking classes through Milk Street Kitchen in partnership with Big Sister Boston! Match Spotlight!

Big Mary and Little Theo have been matched in our school-based program for 2 years! At the beginning of their match, they played board games, created art projects, frosted cookies, and took Polaroid pictures. Mary was worried that the pandemic would affect their connection, but she was quickly proven wrong! Mary and Theo’s strong friendship has been able to sustain the challenge, though they do miss being able to see each other in person. Mary is so proud of Theo for being a strong, resilient, and charismatic seventh grader who sets high goals for herself and does anything she can to follow through on them. Theo has told Mary that she has helped to shape Theo into the young woman she is becoming, but truthfully Mary feels like Theo has shaped who she is too.
